Mold Removal and Painting

I can't say this enough. Use the bathroom exhaust fan. Let it run for at least 15 minutes after taking a hot steamy shower or bath. If the fan is old, replace it. It's a lot less money to spend than a complete restoration painting job. Mold remediation adds to the cost of painting a bathroom significantly such as this one. And it can be unhealthy.

Mansfield Bathroom Painters

Bathroom Painting in Mansfield

Don't let you bathroom get like this.

This is what happens in your bathroom when you take long, hot, steamy showers and don’t turn on the ceiling fan — or worse, when the fan you do have isn’t powerful enough to pull moisture out of the air.

Over time, that excess humidity builds up on your walls and ceiling. The result? Peeling paint, bubbling texture, and eventually, mold. Black spots on the ceiling, brown patches near the corners — we see this kind of damage all the time.

At JCB Painting, we’ve helped many homeowners restore their bathrooms from moldy, peeling messes to clean, fresh, and properly sealed spaces.

🛠️ Here’s our plan of attack for a job like this:
Bleach and treat all moldy areas (in this case, the whole bathroom, ceiling and the walls). This step is crucial — painting over mold without treating it properly just hides the problem temporarily.

Scrape away all loose and peeling paint.

Clean and prep the surfaces thoroughly to ensure proper bonding.
  • Caulk around the tub enclosure and any gaps to seal out future moisture.
  • Prime the ceiling and walls using a high-quality oil-based stain-killing bonding primer. This not only blocks any remaining stains or discoloration but helps lock down any spots where mold might try to return.
  • Paint the ceiling using durable white ceiling paint made for high-moisture areas.
  • Patch, fix, and sand the walls smooth.
  • Finally, apply 2 coats of premium paint in the customer’s chosen color.
💡 Pro Tip from JCB Painting:
If your bathroom doesn’t have a strong enough exhaust fan (or you don’t regularly use it), you’re inviting future problems. After a shower, run the fan for at least 15–20 minutes to help clear out the humidity. This one small habit can prevent mold, paint failure, and costly repairs down the line.

Interior house painting in Foxborough, MA,

The finished bathroom paint job. After images from my last bathroom paint job in Foxborough, MA. What usually takes 2 days to do, painting from baseboard to ceiling, took 4 days because this bathroom was in poor shape. A big contributor of the mold and paint failure was not using the ceiling fan.
The wall color is "la paloma gray" by Benjamin Moore.

Jcb Painting caulked all around the shower enclosure to keep
moisture from seeping under the paint and causing a paint failure after using the shower.

The bottom line here is always use your ceiling fan to exhaust the moisture
in the air after using the shower. Keep it on for at least 15 minutes.

Mold removal and painting in North Attleboro, MA.

mold growing on a ceiling in a bathroom in North Attleboro, MA.
This is what happens when you don't use the ceiling exhaust fan in
your bathroom. You get mold. And it just keeps getting worse.
Then when it has to be painted you have to pay more money
and time to get the job done, even if you do it yourself.
after mold reduction and finish painting.
Jcb Painting works on a lot of Bathrooms and very often
when we come to look at the paint job, mold is an issue because
the exhaust ceiling fan is hardly used or not at all. Before using the shower the ceiling fan should be turned on and kept on for at least 15 minutes after to exhaust the moisture from the air. So the lesson here is, use your bathroom fan. It's there for a purpose.

Deck and Patio Painting in Norton, MA.

Owner of Jcb Painting power washing deck to clean before painting.
Power washing the deck with an electric power washer. I've never used an electric power washer before and I liked it. No gas or exhaust fumes to smell and  it did the job here quite well. And much less noise. In fact it was super quiet!
